How did this happen? I feel like it was just yesterday that we, bewildered, blurry-eyed and sleep-deprived, paced the floor holding our treasure – our firstborn. It is safe to say that at that time he was busily yelling on top of his very healthy lungs. He did that practically non-stop for the first three months.
Well, time goes fast when you are having kids. Now we are a lot calmer. We are still blurry-eyed and sleep-deprived but in the respectable, mature way pacing the floors with baby number seven.
And our firstborn is about to become Bar Mitzvah in just two short months.
Today we celebrated his Hanochas Tefillin. This means that now he gets to put on tefillin preparing himself for his coming adulthood. Yes, Jewish Law considers a male an adult at 13. And if you think it is early, the females become adults at 12 (this once again proves the superiority of women). And now he got his black hat. He looks very cute in it. I am calling him “my favorite mushroom”.
Here is a little video taken by a friend. In this video clip my Son, who is sitting next to my husband, recites a portion of the Bar Mitzvah Ma’amar (public Chasidic speech written by Lubavitcher Rebbe).
