I love playing with my knitting. And conducting “scientific” experiments. Sometimes I fall in love with a pattern stitch and use it in a few knitting projects just to see what can I do with it.
This time it was a good old “Feather and Fan” pattern. It is probably the easiest of the lace patterns and incredibly versatile. It can become a delicate lace stole or a pretty sweater depending on the yarn and gage.
My favorite experimental objects are baby hats. They are fast, take little yarn and there are always little babies around, who can use a nice hat.
What I wanted to see was how different the hats would be if I started one from the bottom up:
and the other from top down.
I will publish the patterns this week.
I was happy to see that they both have a pretty scalloped “flower” edge that I love so much . It is hard for me to say which one I like best. What do you think?
