This past week was… uneasy…
Uneasy is the best word I could come up to define it.
We all have been in a state of high alert waiting for what else was going to happen and hoping and praying that the news would be utterly boring and mundane.
No such luck so far…
Tonight the Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus was burned. I guess they can not even leave the dead Jews be…
But while we are uneasy we go on living anyway.
Kids need to be fed, put on the bus and met off the bus, food bought, errands run and so on and so on.
So now I go out to the bus stop armed.
I got a canister of gas in my pocket and an 8″ long 2.5mm tempered steel double pointed knitting needle. I thought about caring a rolling pin – a traditional wifely weapon in our family. A new bride has been given a nice weighty rolling on her wedding day for generations, with a quiet advise about how multi functional a rolling pin can be. But the rolling pin does not fit in my knitting bag, so I have to leave it behind. Otherwise my 12 year old son gets embarrassed. He assures me that knitting needle behind my ear is weird enough as it is. I think my kids are beginning to feel sorry for the hypothetical terrorist foolish enough to cross my path.
Well, it is better than being scared!
So, onto my knitting.
I have finally almost finished knitting a skirt for DD#3! Hooray for me, since I thought this skirt will never end. My seven year old daughter might be slight and skinny, but it is still much more knitting than for a baby. She also has an unpleasant habit of checking my progress and pointing out all the knitting that was not done on her skirt. And why is she last anyway? I tell you, woodpeckers are amateurs next to this kid!I finished knitting it yesterday, washed it this morning and now “just” need to weave in the ends. Then my sewing friend Haya will make a slip for this skirt.
And no, I did not take a picture before popping this skirt into the washing machine.
But I do have the photos of the two preceding skirts. Made for DD #4
And for DD #5
they are also drying now and will need the same treatment as the skirt for DD#3.
So having that boulder roll off my shoulders I decided that I need some knitting entertainment. For me this means starting a Ruffle Scarf. Just 10 stitches back and fourth in garter stitch can keep me very, very happy and produce a beautiful scarf.
The yarn is so off brand it does not even have a name. But is is giving me lots of pleasure.
Did you know that tear gas canisters now come in pink? I almost cracked up when I was buying them. So now, DD #1 has a pink tear gas canister. When I gave it to her she asked me “did not they have any turquoise?” Teenagers! It also has a handy, dandy pocket clip. Grrr…
P.P.S. If you think that my weapons choices are strange you should know that so far we have reports of terrorist repelled and lives being saved by people welding nunchacks, a selfi stick, umbrella and yes, the multi functional rolling pin.
