Remember my announcement about finishing the Megillah Sweater?
I have finally finished it again!
Yes, you are reading it right. I did it again! Here you will need to imagine a profound groan!
Like a proverbial bad penny it came back to me for “editing”.
The problem was that it was to be a surprise for the young lady. So I could not measure her. Instead I used DD #1 as a model, taking into consideration that the recipient was a bit shorter and a bit slimmer.
So I decided that life is simple and I will just make the sweater a little tighter and a tad shorter than I would do for DD. I should have know life was not going to be so easy! It turned out that thank G-d I was right about the slimmer part, but was way off about the length.
When I asked the Mom of the sweater victim how is the sweater, she told me it was a little short. So I asked her to have a young lady to stop by with a sweater and I will fix it. She came, she put it on, and I went – “Ouch!”.
First of all it was short, not fashionably short, but the in-between “it does not look right” kind of short. The girl has a very long torso. And the sleeves! Short indeed! The little young thing has arms as long as any gorilla!
Speaking plainly it turned out that the girls of very similar height and weight can have different sized body components. I have had to undo the ribbing and add more cable repeats, then re-knit the ribbing again. All 25 rounds of it!
Lesson learned – no more knitting for strangers before measuring them first!
The Up-side of this story is that the sweater looks terrific! She wore it yesterday to the engagement party we attended and got lots of compliments on it!
