I am breezing out. Slowly.
Ahead of me is the last leg of the Holiday season. Shabbos Breishis. Shabbos when, once again, we start reading Torah from the first chapter – Breishis. then the normal non-holiday life resumes and we will look back fondly on the past month of Holiday madness.
After a very late night last night I got up in the morning and realized that I had an appointment in a nearby town of Afulla and I got very little time to get there.
So I run for the “Sherut” – this is an interesting service. We just discovered it a few months ago. Basically it is a Taxi, that rides just ahead of the bus and follows bus stops. The ride costs about the same as a bus ride and driver tries to cram in as many people into the car as he can. The benefit is that having picked up a passenger a driver of the “sherut” is willing to go straight to the bus stop instead of following twists and turns of the bus route.
Bought challos for Shabbos and a treat my kids call pitta-pizza. It is made with circles of pizza dough, about the size of pita bread. There is plenty of tomato paste and olives on top. Fresh ones are irresistible!
Rushing out of the bakery I made it to the bus stop just in time to miss my once every half an hour bus. But that did not upset me at all. I knew I still had time before the appointment, the weather was wonderful, the bench comfortable and I had my knitting with me. What else could I ask for? I spent very productive 20 minutes knitting the sole of the second DH’s Amazing Siberian Slipper, got on to the almost empty bus and had 20 more minutes of knitting pleasure. Did my thing at the doctor’s and was back at the bus station just in time to wave “Good by” to my bus as it pulled out. So I had time to finish the sole of the slipper and discovers that I forgot the slipper number one at home. This meant that I had to put away the slipper I was working on since I could not remember what I did with the heel of the first one.
No problem for me. One project bag went back into my purse, and a second one came out. By the way if there would have been a problem with the second project I had a third one as a back up. Yes, that is me, the serial knitter.
The second project is a sweater I am knitting for DD #5, in nice, thick, springy wool. I got the yarn many years ago at my first Maryland Sheep and Wool festival. It has been maturing in my stash all these years and now its time has come.
I am using the Bamboo stitch pattern for the body, knitting it from the bottom up and so far have no idea of what am I going to do on top.
Got home just in time to get a phone call from DS 1, letting me know that the boys are on the way home. And got a surprise – I caught DD 1 washing the kitchen counter. Wow!
Run around a bit trying to cram into an hour all I needed to do since morning, then sat down to rest and write.
Meanwhile the heel on the second slipper is done, the hungry boys are due home any minute and the Shabbos is coming in in just over an hour.
This means I got to get off the computer and do make some miracle happen here. No more knitting or writing today.
See you after Shabbos.
