I did not fall off the face of the Earth yet. I did not get eaten by a wild animal. And still claim to be sane most of the time. Time – now that has been a problem lately.
Last week was insane!
We are on the hunt for all the appropriate papers. Then we have to get them certified and obtain a letter that they are truly certified from another party. After that the fourth party rewards us (for a small fee) with a paper, that said that our first one is truly, authentically, certified, as in “cross my heart and hope to die” kind of thing.
The amount of papers to be hunted down is staggering. This is made even more interesting by the fact that I do not possess a country of birth.
Nope, I did not loose it or destroyed it by accident. And I was not born on a plane or a space station. Actually, I am so old they did not have space stations when I was born.
The problem is that my birth country (USSR) have expired before my passport did. I have contacted a Russian Embassy, but they will have nothing to do with me because I was not born on Russian territory. Ukrainian Consulate was not helpful too. I was not living in Ukraine, when it separated from Russia. I did not apply for the Ukrainian citizenship within the time allotted. I am not a Ukrainian citizen. They only serve Ukrainian citizens.
The good thing is that with all this travelling all over New York in pursuit of the right papers I am getting in a lot of knitting done. The Summer Skirt (which turned out not so Summer) is almost done. They have even allowed me to have my knitting with me at the court house on Friday (2 US passports for the youngest kids and 2 certifications on our name changes). I guess I looked like I really needed it.
I am actually looking forward to Columbus Day when all these interesting places will be closed. Then I can do some food shopping and get myself new glasses.
