No more lost hats and cold ears!!!
Finally! Finally! Finally!
I have been working on this cute pattern for a few months. But kept testing it and making more sizes. And the final stage – an actual PDF pattern needed both of us – me and DH working on it! At last, on Thursday we finished it up.
I have probably knit at least a dozen of Over The Heel hats. They are a favorite with most kids and parents. As long as the kid keeps the hat on, it is impossible to loose, since these hats will not fall off!
They cover the throat and the back of the head, eliminating the need for the scarf. The ears are covered too! My kids love pulling these hats on!
Over the Heel hats knit up fairly fast and take just two balls of yarn (about 220 – 260 yards). I have washed the hats I made many times and they still look and feel like new.
I have mainly used Knit Picks Swish Superwash in Worsted Weight, but did not have the orange and green for my “Peas and Carrots” hat. So I ended up using Swish Superwash in DK Weight. I have to report, that I have not seen a significant difference in gage or fit of the hat.
The name of the hat is a clue to its construction. The hat is made like a giant sock heel. So if you wanted to try to knit socks, but were too intimidated to give it a go – here is your chance to do it with a fairly thick yarn and large needles.
As usual you can sell up to 5 hats a year made from this pattern if you give me a credit for designing it.
I hope you will make a bunch of these cute hats and share with me the photos of your finished projects!
