As usual the day is almost over and only now I sit down to write about it. But I feel that I have to write and remind the world. Hello, World! Today is June 22nd. Please, do not forget! On June 22, 1941 at 4am German planes have bombed USSR, that is how Russia entered the WWII.
Before it was over, millions have been killed. Estimates of total dead range from 50 million to over 70 million. The loses remain tremendous. I was born in 1970 and for most Russians the time was still divided into before and after the war.
One of the first to be bombed was the city I was born in – Kiev. Because my DGF was a tailor, who worked at the military academy, my Grandparents and my great-grandparents were evacuated. Most of the relatives who stayed behind were murdered by nazis.
I remember my DGM saying about the mass grave of Babiy Yar – we have more family there than anywhere else.
Why am I bringing it up? Because we have to remember. As long as we do, we remain human and deserve the name – HUMANITY.
