I had a very wonderful and busy week. Most of it was spend madly running from place to place. I would stop for a few minutes here and there, knit a couple of rows or rounds on this or that, then take off for the next point on my program.
A week ago I would have been angry and upset about a week like that. I would be resentful about the pain that accompanies my movements and cranky about the lack of help from kids. But all of a sudden I feel empowered. I feel in charge. I feel strong. I feel like the good old me.
So what am I knitting?
I have made a nice progress on my new pair of Amazing Siberian Slippers.
One top is fully finished now and the second one is half done. Up until Wednesday these slippers were my main traveling project.
My other traveling project is the Sorbet Skirt
I mainly knit it in taxis or buses since all it is so far is plain knitting in the round. Very manageable as the bus takes pretty tight corners at full speed.
The Sea Foam Shawl has grown way beyond the “take me along” size. So it gets to stay home now. Just one more ball and it will be done! The “In Bloom” blanket have seen quite a bit of action this week too! Mainly when I wake up at night and can not go back to sleep. I do not want to wake DH and this blanket is perfect for knitting in the dark. I went through 2 balls of the “blooming” yarn and have 5 more left.
I worked on all these projects diligently until Wednesday…
On Wednesday I went to visit my friend Shulamis. She and her family have an apartment in Maalot, a tiny town on Israel’s Northern border.
I have been meaning to go for the past 4 years. And despite the length of the trip and the number of buses I had to take each way I am very, very happy I went. But back to knitting! About 15 minutes before I had to go out to the bus stop I had a brilliant idea. I would make my friend a shawl! If I knit very fast non-stop I might even finish it before I had to go home. A shawlette. Out of fingering yarn. Yea, I know, I know, delusional…
But anyway I picked the the perfect yarn and have been madly knitting my “Lavender Lace” Shawlette
I am now back home and the shawlette is half-done. I am loving every stitch of it!
Visiting my friend was so much fun! She has changed very little since I seen her last about two years ago. Her kids are lovely and lively and smart. And I proved to myself that yes, I can pick up and go, I will not fall apart. My kids and DH have managed just fine without me. Shulamis is wonderfully arty and crafty but she does not knit. One of her daughters started learning last year and wanted the refresher. I was glad to help and we spent a lot of time knitting together side by side.
It was very hard to pick up and go back, since we both felt as I just got there. But I knew that I had a treat waiting for me on the way back. A stop in my beloved Tveria (Tiberius).
I love this old beautiful town. I love just standing on the shore of Kineret and looking at the water. Going to Tveria is also a spiritual experience for me. I met up at the bus station with another friend – Nechama and we went to visit the grave of Rabbi Meir Baal HaNess. And yes, I knit some prayers into my shawlette there too.
Then it was time to go home.
When I got in I was exhausted but so happy…
