Last week our Internet service was spotty. And for two very memorable days non-existent. Now thinking about it I can not be sure that it was all a bad thing. All of a sudden I had much more time to knit! And since I had a wonderful reason – two of my friends had brand new babies – knit I did!
Baby knitting is my favorite. Because it is so tiny I get to finish the projects fast. Because it is made for tiny babies – I know it will not get muddied about on the playground. Because handmade gifts are so rare in our fast-paced world I know that things I knit will be treasured by the Moms. And possibly used again and again.
So my knitting total in the first week of 2012 is:
A baby hat and booties set for Baby “Q”. While on the Yarn Crawl I came across some yummy Angora yarn. Of course, as it is usually, the case with this kind of yarn, it was very expensive too. Way too expensive for even a baby sweater. So instead I designed this little hat where the fuzzy Angora yarn forms pretty dots contrasting with the slick shiny merino-silk blend. After making two hats and one pair of booties I have quite a lot left over. Enough for one more hat! This is another reason why knitting for babies is so much fun – you do not need a lot of yarn, so it is fun to experiment with fibers that would be too expensive for an adult garment.
The pink and white set for Baby “B” was made with Zarina merino yarn. The hat has the white Angora yarn too.
All in all – a pretty productive week!
