We are seriously engaged in preparing our documents for Alia. Things are moving with unpredictable speed. Kind of start and stop. More and more papers certifying other papers needed.
Some will need to be picked up in other states. Only one of the organization will require 44 original documents. Possibly more.
All this takes time and money. Money to travel to one and only location where they issue certified copies of this. And then you need to get them verified in another agency across town. And let us not forget the document fees! Maybe $55.00 for each corrected birth certificate is not excessive, by when you multiply it by 5! Mind boggles.
DH just called me from one such agency. We need a certified translation of my birth certificate. From Russian. Again only one place where you can get it. The problem is they do not have a Russian translator available. So they told DH to translate the documents himself! They will then charge us for the translation. Insane!
So through all this I am trying to knit. I gauge my stress level by how many projects I insist on taking with me. The birth certificate correction warranted four knit and one crochet project. That is my all time high and it was totally unrealistic to expect to work on them all.
When we got home yesterday after getting a phone call that the Vital Statistics people want more papers, the first thing I did was to grab for my knitting needles and resumed working on the Carnation Dress, that has now become Carnation Coat.
I have actually made a nice progress on it because every time I get really nervous or enraged I knit.
It is either that or drinking.
Knitting is definitely more socially acceptable.
