Because the yarn I used has a high percentage of silk (that is why I love it so much) the socks should be knit tightly, otherwise they will look floppy.

CO Cast On
DPN Double Pointed Needles
Using a long tail cast on,
CO 72 sts.
Divide between 4 needles – 18 sts. on each needle.
Round 1-20 (K1P1) all around.
Round 21-59 Knit all sts.
Round 60 Knit all sts. On needles 1-3, on needle 4 – (Sl1K1) 8 times.
Continue Sl1K1 from DPN#1 onto the DPN# 4, ending with P1. 36 sts.
This is the stitches that will make the heel. You can sleep the sts. From DPNs #2 and #3 onto the waste yarn to prevent the stitches from stretching out.
Row 1 Sl1,K1 to the last stitch, P1.
Row 2 Sl1,P35.
Repeat this two rows 17 more times.
Row 1 Sl1,K10,(Sl1K1) 6 times, Sl1,K2Tog, turn.
Row 2 Sl1,P12,P2Tog, turn.
Row 3 (Sl1K1) 6 times, Sl1,K2Tog, turn.
Repeat rows 2 & 3 until you have 14 sts. left.
Round 1 (Sl1K1) 7 times, then with the same needle pick up and knit 18 stitches on the left side of the sock. Sleep 18 sts. on the needle # 2 and on the needle #3, pick up and knit 18 sts on the right side of the heel flap on the needle # 4, then knit 7 sts from needle #1 onto the needle # 4. Now needles 4 and 1 hold 25 sts each.
Round 2 Knit all sts on all four needles.
Round 3 On the first needle – K22,K2Tog,K1
On the second and third – knit all sts.
On the fourth needle – K1,SSK,K22.
Repeat round 2 and 3 until each needle holds 18.
Round 1-55 Knit all stitches.
Do not be afraid to try on the sock at this stage. It can be fun. Especially if you do it at the doctors office or on a subway. Your foot will look interesting with all the needles sticking out around it. Of course you can go the easy way and slip the stitches on waste yarn before trying on the sock. You can start working on the toe when the sock will be long enough to reach the base of your little toe.

Round 2 and all even rounds – Knit all stitches.
Round 3 K14,K2Tog,K2,SSK,K28,K2Tog,K2,SSK,K14.

Round 7 K12,K2Tog,K2,SSK,K24,K2Tog,K2,SSK,K12.

Now we start decreasing each round:

Needle 2 K1,SSK, knit the rest of the sts.

Needle 4 K1,SSK, knit the rest of the sts.
Repeat this round until you will have only 4 sts. on each needle.
Move the sts. on needle 2 onto the needle 3.
Knit the sts. on needle 1, and move them onto the needle 4.
Use Kitchener stitch to close up the toe.
