I have fell off my blog horse and now getting back on it again.
These last few weeks were challenging. And lucky me, my challenges are not coming to me one by one – that would be too boring, instead they are bunching up into a “challenge bouquet” presented to me by G-d.
Well, thank you very much, I would rather have had flowers.
As I posted before, I am taking a part in the Indie Design 2015 Gift-A-Long! on Ravelry. I have been meaning to sit down and write a huge post on it, but we all know what happens to good intentions…
This is my first year participating and I am enjoying myself a lot. And already looking forward to next year, thinking about new patterns that are just waiting to be designed and published, or old patterns waiting to be proofread and published. I am not just hanging out there as one of the designers, I took an opportunity of the 25% off discount and for the first time in years bought a few patterns actually intending to knit them. I was going to get one or two but ended up with seven. This is not so bad, since I had about 50 on my wish list. That also is not so bad since there are FIFTEEN THOUSAND participating patterns.
So for the first time in years I am working on patterns designed and written by someone else. Actually a few different people. Yes, this makes a difference. Trust me! Out of seven patterns I have started four and now actively working on three of them. Did you notice I did not say “knitting”? That is because for the first time in years (I have been saying this one over and over) I am crocheting. And not just a little crochet edging here or there but out of three active projects two – crochet!
I have to go back a bit to how I made my selection. All the while wondering if I am boring you. From the beginning I decided that this will be an utterly selfish adventure. I chose patterns that had two of the three following features:
1. was something I wanted to wear
2. had new to me techniques that I wanted to learn
3. featured interesting models and had good pattern writing techniques that I was hoping to learn from.
One of the best features of the Gigtalong is that designers are available to help if I will get stuck. Through me, being me, I prefer to work things out by myself.
I will write about each of them separately. Tomorrow? I hope so!
Besides these three “pet projects” I am also actively working on the “Grey Matter” Sweater/Vest? for DS 2. The question mark is there because I am not sure if there will be sleeves and if yes what kind. We are negotiating. DS does not want sleeves. But I am just not sure…
And I am working on two Joyful! shawls at the same time as I write down and prof the Joyful! pattern. One of them (My Yak Shawl) is almost done. The other one will be much larger and I hope it will be my travel knitting.
And yes! Here, at the end comes the big news! I bought plane ticket and I am flying back to US! Just for three weeks. I am going to see my Mom and Dad. My Sister and my amazing Grandma. And hopefully some of my American friends. I am flying on December 29th, on a long 11 hour flight. I will admit here and now that I made my choice of airlines based on a possibility of knitting in flight.
I am very exited and keep fluctuating between utter terror (I am really, really afraid of flying) and sheer exhilaration. I am going by myself. A real Mommy vacation.
