A friend has send me a letter asking if she could adapt my Baby Cocoon pattern for Summer use.
Well, my Cocoon was made out of bulky wool, but my friend, understandably in this weather, wants to use thin linen yarn. Of course, you see a problem here. So, instead I have improvised and came up with this super easy all purpose “Cocoon Recipe” that will work with any yarn.
1. Find your favorite pattern for a watch cap – or any kind of hat, that is crochet in the round, starting from the top, in a size 2T.
Something like this pattern is perfect.
2. Make a swatch and figure out your gage.
3. Reconcile the gage you get from the yarn you want to use and the pattern.
4. Start working from what would have been the top of the hat, but will become the bottom of the Cocoon. Follow your hat instructions, but make it a very, very, very long hat.
Keep going until you will get to the top of the shoulders. If in doubt it is better to make the Cocoon a bit shorter. Now stop crocheting in the round and start crocheting back and forth over two thirds of the stitches for about 2.5″. Fasten off. Weave in the tail and add a pretty edging to the top.
