Last week while I went to Tzfat I noticed posters saying today will be Hachnasa Sefer Torah. It is very special event, so I decided to go there.
Now let me tell you a few words about it and show some pictures.
The Torah Scroll is a text of The Holy Torah(Bible) given to Moshe(Moses) by G-d, witch is hand-written on special parchment by using a quill (or other permitted writing utensil) dipped in ink. Click here for more info. When scribe almost finish the whole scroll, then people who ordered it making special ceremony that called Hachnasa Sefer Torah.
It has 3 major parts:
a) completion of writing the last words of the Scroll
b) reciting certain prayers and dancing with the Scroll
c) after bringing brand new Scroll of Torah into its place in synagogue – meal.
This celebration was very special. The person who ordered and dedicated this Scroll is prominent member of local community that recently became very sick. So to have merit for him, his family and all Jewish people, specially 2.5 weeks before Rosh Hashana, he decided to do this great Mitzvah.
