All this time my DH was grumbling and complaining about me knitting another pair of socks, all this time I just said “Yes , Dear” and smiled, his subsequent apology was worth it )))))).
A pair of plain black socks. Of course they were knit on 000 DPNs. I really loved the way they came out.
So smooth and plushy at the same time. All in all I am very lucky that my DH’s foot is only size 8, there is only so long you can knit in black. OK, OK, I will admit it, not totally plain black , I used Essential Kettle Dyed Yarn from KnitPicks.
It is wonderful, if only it would come in more striped colors I would never buy another skein of Opal again.
Here is my pattern for
Plain Black Socks
My husband is very skinny , and has a small foot. You might need to omit leg decreases and make a longer foot.
2 Skeins of Essential Kettle Dyed Sock Yarn in “Soot”
5 6″ 000 DPNs . I use HiyaHiyya from Knitting Zone
Tapestry needle to close up the toe.
Cast on 80 st.
Here is how to do long tail cast on.
Divide them over 4 needles – 20 each. Connect into the circle.
R1-R30 Ribbing . k3p2 all around.
R31-R40 Ether continue ribbing or just knit plain.
R41 k17, k2tog, k2, ssk, k34, k2tog, ssk, k17.
R42-R60 Knit all stitches.
R61 k16, k2tog, k2, ssk, k32, k2tog, k2, ssk, k16.
R90 Knit all stitches.
Transfer the stitches from the last and the first DPNs to the circular needle .
Put the rest of the stitches on waste yarn to await the completion of the heel.
R1 sl1, p35.
R2 sl1, k1, to the last stitch , p1.
Repeat this 2 rows 17 times more.
R37 sl1, p35.
R1 sl1, k10, *sl1, k1*6 times , sl1, k2tog, turn.
R2 sl1, p12, p2tog, turn.
R3 *sl1, k1*6 times , sl1, k2tog, turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you are left with 14 stitches.
Now the stitches that were on the waste yarn go back on the DPNs.
Pick up 22 stitches on each side of the heel , divide the heel evenly between the last and the first needle.
R1 Knit all stitches
R2 On the first needle – knit to the last 3 stitches , k2tog, k1. Knit all the stitches on the next two needles , on the last needle, k1, ssk, k to the end.
R3 Knit all stitches.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 , until you have 18 stitches on each needle.
Now you are almost there , just 55 more rows of plain knitting. Then decrease for the toes.
R1 On the first-needle ,Knit to the last 3 stitches , k2tog, k1. On the second needle – k1, ssk, k
to the end. On the third needle – Knit to the last 3 stitches , k2tog, k1. On the fourth needle – k1, ssk, k to the end.
R2 Knit all stitches.
Repeat this 2 rows until you are left with 14 stitches on each needle. After that decrease every row until you are left with 4 stitches on each needle.
Close up the toe with the
Just on the whim I have knitted a letter “E” , the first letter of his name on the sole of the second sock.
