The weather is getting colder by the day. Even if we do not have the snow yet like Maggie, it is still cold enough to hurry up and make those hats, and mittens and socks.
Every year I tell myself that I will do that in the Summer. I mean I am old enough to remember that no matter how hot it is in July the Winter will come, and it will be cold, and windy, and we will all want that wonderful warmth that hand-knits give us.
So I have been on the hat-making kick. I have made a few baby hats, and my DD # 2 has now got a hat. One done – 5 more to go!
Meanwhile I decided to treat my Mother to a nice, warm hat too. I have knitted a grown up version of the “Baby Beloved” hat. I am simply calling it “Beloved”. This spiral-knit hat combines wonderful texture, warmth and flexibility. Because it is very stretchy it fits any size head and will not flatten a fancy hairdo. The pattern is very easy to remember, but not boring, I loved seeing the spiral develop. It will work best in solid or tweed yarn. Because you will need just one ball of yarn it is a perfect take along knitting project. It took me less than a day to knit this hat, so it makes a very nice “in the hurry gift” for someone special. This hat can be knit in a luxury fiber like cashmere, nice crisp wool or serviceable acrylic. It would look very nice on both man and woman.
The pattern is now on sale in my Etsy Shop.
P.S. Many thanks to my friend Y. for modeling my new hat.
